Harris Installation Services was formed in 2003 by Managing Director Phil Harris and Company Secretary Sheri Harris with the operation being run from home in Hornchurch.
With the increase in demand for both installation and storage, warehousing was the next step forward. Securing a unit within the Charlton area in 2004 allowed HIS to increase their client portfolio, provide a better service for their existing clients and to increase staff and vehicle numbers.
An additional two units were taken on in 2004 to cope with the demands of storage and installation work. In turn the office relocated from home to an office in Hornchurch. Along with staff additions this allowed a knowledgeable team to be forged, with 35 years experience in all.
In 2005 the decision was made to house the complete operation of HIS under one roof. Two newly built warehouses in Thamesmead were taken on. By the end of 2005 warehousing and operations were under one roof, where they remain to this day.
2006 saw HIS concentrating on recycling redundant furniture and packaging, transporting the product to a recycling plant known as Green Works where a certification note is provided.
Towards the end of 2007 HIS began recycling in-house, dedicating a member of staff to stripping the furniture and separating the elements, wood, metal and plastic, in preparation for disposing at the relevant recycling plants. With the installation of new furniture, all packaging is collated and delivered to a reputable recycling company.
In 2008 HIS started focusing on haulage/container transport working closely with local companies, providing transport and experienced drivers to help with the increasing workload.
